Sun Dog is a sustainability-focused outdoor lifestyle brand I created for my senior project at Colorado State University in 2024. The line is inspired by my father, Larry Scott, whose fearless spirit and love of adventure shaped its identity. In the summers of 1986 and 1987, he and his closest friends sailed from Paris to Svalbard Island and Nova Scotia aboard a small sailboat, The Solitaire, despite having no prior boating experience. Along the way, he documented the journey on film, capturing both the risk and beauty of the Atlantic.
I dedicated Sun Dog to his remarkable spirit and photography, which appears throughout the brand’s visual identity and as prints on the Magdalena Windbreaker and Nomad Bicycle set. A standout piece, the Magdalena Windbreaker, features an image of Magdalena Fjord in Svalbard with The Solitaire in the foreground. Its pattern is inspired by the bright red Eastern Mountain Sports Gore-Tex windbreaker my dad wore on the voyage—later passed down to me, worn and hand-mended. Reimagining that jacket became central to the collection, influencing its haptic elements, unique seam lines, and functionality. Inspired by both the original garment and contemporary outdoor trends like quilting and jacquard ribbon, I emphasized uncommon yet practical seamwork throughout the line.

Sun Dog was produced using deadstock fabrics sourced from local outdoor brands, reflecting my commitment to sustainability by repurposing materials otherwise considered waste. I also used CLO3D to pattern several garments in the collection, maximizing fabric yield.
The collection debuted in Colorado State University’s 2024 fashion show, Astral Threads, where it was recognized as “Most Marketable.”
